1. What is the CAQ?
The CAQ is the Quebec Acceptance Certificate. It is a study permit delivered by the Quebec Government. You will need to apply for the CAQ BEFORE applying for a Canadian Study Permit if you plan to study more than 24 weeks. For more information visit this site.
2. Will I have any trouble getting around Montreal if I do not speak any French?
No, Montreal is a very bilingual and multicultural city. On the streets, you can meet people from many parts of the world who speak more than one language. Both English and French are widely spoken.
3. Can I get a job while I am studying at POINT3?
No, you are not permitted to work while you student. In order to legally work, you must first obtain a work permit from the Government of Canada. For more information visit http://www.cic.gc.ca
4. Do I need health insurance when studying at POINT3?
Yes, POINT3 requires all students to show a proof of their health insurance on their first day of class.
5. Can POINT3 provide health insurance?
No, but, POINT3 has negotiated a favorable price of $2.00 per day (minimum 14 days) with Student Guard Health Insurance. For more information on Student guard visit http://www.guard.me
6. How much does it cost to study at POINT3?
The cost varies depending on the length of time the student will be studying at POINT3. Please check the “Fees” section of our web site for a more detailed description of prices. Or go to our Course Calculator for an estimate.
7. Can I study English and French at the same time?
Both our intensive English and French classes are held in the morning from 8:30 to 1:30 so it is not possible to study both languages at the same time. Also we do not advise it. However, we do encourage you to spend a certain amount of time studying one language and then switching to the other.
For example you can study 6 months of English at POINT3, and then change for 6 months of French. We have many students who choose this option.
8. Do I need a visa to study at POINT3?
Students wishing to study at POINT3 may need a visa or study permit depending on the country that they come from. For all students wishing to study for more than 24 weeks, a study permit and CAQ is required. For more information check the “Visa and CAQ” section of our web site.
9. What kind of accommodations do you offer?
We offer homestay with French, English or bilingual families depending on what the student would like. We also offer accommodations at a co-ed student residence in Montreal where the students have their own private bedroom and share a kitchen, washrooms and common area with other international students. 10. How do you decide which level I am?
Before starting classes, students will write a grammar placement test as well as having a speaking evaluation done by the Director of Studies. This will allow us to place you in the appropriate level for each of your classes.
